YEEEEEES. Four and a HALF stars for this awesome page-turning sequel. This is the kind of thing that I like to see. All of my issues with the first book - the whole high school drama crap that just blergh - GONE from this book and replaced by a fantastically descriptive world between Heaven and Hell. Well really Heaven and Hell. I'm actually glad I ended Adorned and jumped right into Cloven, mostly because of the great cliffhanger that we ended. And I have to tell you that I was sucked into it - even overpowering my flying anxiety from Chattanooga to Washington.
The ONLY thing that dropped it a half star for me was the ending. Not the ending, but the ending-ending. I can't see where the series goes from here. It felt like the HEA for our main characters. But I think there's more books.
Seriously though, definitely loved this book SO MUCH more than the first. Highly recommended series

Psychocat Reads Review of CLOVEN by Georgeann Swiger
(I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
Five and a half months ago, I had the opportunity to read and review ADORNED, and I made sure Georgeann knew I wanted to know when the next book came out. As soon as we had a date for CLOVEN, I snuck in into the earliest possible spot. So let's see if the second book in The Trinity of Souls Series made it through Psychocat's claws unscathed.
The Book As Part of a Series There is no question, you need to read ADORNED before picking up CLOVEN. This book picks up at a pretty critical part of the story, but if you haven't read the first book you'll be completely confused. Ideally I would have loved to reread ADORNED before jumping into this one so that everything was fresh. Fortunately I was able to get regrounded in the characters and story pretty quickly.
The Characters Speaking of characters, it was great to jump back in with some familiar names. We get to revisit all of the angels from the first book (Anya, Micah, Sam, Celeste, Eli, Simon), and meet several knew ones. Just like before, each of them has their own unique personality and quirks. They'll often leave you snickering at just how un-angelic they really seem.
I really liked Anya in this book. She's far from perfect, but she is strong even when she's not really sure what's going on with a situation. It's not that she never freaks out about things, but she doesn't let that cripple her.
The Relationships The tie between Anya and Micah is at the heart of CLOVEN's story; however, there are plenty of other dynamics impacting the story. After the mentions in ADORNED, it was very interesting to meet Dahlia. Wow. There's so much I could say about her, but I won't do her justice. Her dynamic with everyone is rather amazing to read.
One of the trickiest things about relationships in CLOVEN is never quite being sure whom Anya should trust. Honestly though, the constant wondering about true motives and wanting to see if various characters are on the good side or the bad is part of what makes this book such a page turner.
Too Perfect or Perfectly Flawed Taking into account the second comment in the relationships section and the fact that a good portion of this book takes place in Hell, I think too perfect flew off the table in a heartbeat. The reality is, this book doesn't follow some easy and predictable path. Just be prepared that once you get through the first third of it, you may not be able to close the book.
Jen's Final Rating 4.5 STARS! I connected to CLOVEN faster than I did ADORNED, but it still didn't feel like it hit a really good stride for the first few chapters. Of course, as noted above, once I hit around 30% completed, I just had to keep going. So my big questions now are where is the next book, and what the heck is up with Lennox?
Psychocat's Final Rating 5 CLAWS! I really don't want to dig to deep into her decision to rate a book that features Lucifer with 5 claws. This implies things about Psychocat that I prefer to pretend aren't true. Hopefully I'm wrong and she just really likes Anya and Micah.
These books aren't my usual type of books, but I do like them. The supernatural aspect overrides the romance part enough to keep me drawn in. The characters are nicely written and have a good description so you can get a good grasp on who they are and what they are. I love to read and can't wait for the third book to see what happens next! I would recommend these to anyone who likes this type of genre or just wants a good book to read, they are well written and easy to read.
I bought the first book and it left me hanging. I had no choice but to buy the next too books. I am glad I did. This is a series that is good for teens, but maybe not the under 13 age group. Its a good read.
This is such an excellent book! After reading the first book, "Adorned", I could hardly wait for "Cloven" to arrive in the mail. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. A definite page-turner. After reading the last page, I can't wait for the final book of the series so I can finally find out what happens to Anya and Micah! I highly recommend this series.
